Tuesday Keynote Speaker: John Foley, Former Blue Angel
John Foley
John Foley
Former Blue Angel Pilot
Tuesday, Nov. 19
John Foley knows a little something about achieving excellence. As a former pilot with the Blue Angels — the U.S. Navy’s squadron of flight demonstration jets — he had to execute excellence in flying every time he took to the skies. But this takes much more than simply flying a fighter jet. It means successful communication, trust, accurate information and follow-through. Now retired, he is taking those components of excellence to business leaders as a way to help them achieve the success they are seeking.
Foley’s path to success and achieving his goals wasn’t easy. But he turned challenges into learning opportunities. His pursuit of excellence knew no bounds. When Foley flew with the Blue Angels, he was promoted from Naval carrier pilot to lead solo pilot, becoming one of the world’s top pilots. He led his crew in a number of formations including the signature diamond formation in which the jets maintain a mere 18-inch wing tip-to-canopy separation. Using that as inspiration, he developed the unique Diamond Performance Framework for excellence.
Now, as a sought-after keynote speaker, Foley shares his insights and excellence techniques, helping clients achieve high performance in their careers and at home. He teaches concrete techniques to help clients embrace challenge and strive for higher levels of achievement and success as well as a deeper sense of purpose as they work toward their personal goals. His speaking topics include peak performance, engagement, leadership, execution, accountability, team building and motivation.
The Diamond Performance Framework encourages professionals to make critical thinking and critical processes part of their DNA. There are both limiting and liberating beliefs about performance, and with a one-day training called “The How of High Performance (H2P),” Foley and his team help client teams and individuals to break free of limitations to help them think, feel and perform at a higher level.
Foley has served as an advisor to Fortune 500 companies, professional sports teams, venture capital companies, professional associations and educational institutions as well as individuals. With positive testimonials from companies like The Hartford, Arkansas Hospital Association, Ingenix and Jamba Juice, it’s clear that Foley has a real talent at connecting with client needs
In addition to an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, he earned two master’s degrees from Stanford University, one in business and one in international policy studies, and another in strategic studies from the Naval War College.
During his years as a Navy carrier pilot, Foley won six “Top Ten Carrier Pilot” awards. As a Blue Angel, he got extensive media coverage and experience with over 500 appearances on networks like ABC, NBC, A&E and the Discovery Channel.
