Last month, more than 100 building service contractor CEOs and leaders gathered at the BSCAI 2019 CEO Seminar at the beautiful Westin Grand Cayman Resort for three days of learning and networking. This year’s event delivered the same top-notch education that attendees have enjoyed in the past.
Claudia St. John, president of Affinity HR Group, Inc., kicked-off the event presenting an overview of the state of the labor market, emerging trends and how BSCs can best plan and prepare themselves for the dramatic changes that are anticipated for 2019. She was followed by Dr. Alan Beaulieu, president and principal, ITR Economics. Dr. Beaulieu discussed the U.S. and global economies, touching on numerous leading indicators that will clearly tell leaders what to expect, and when to expect it. This session helped give attendees the confidence to prepare for 2019 and affect tactical changes that will enhance profitability through 2020.
Friday continued with more industry insights from Marc Emmer, president of Optimize. Emmer shared his “Secret Sauce” for growth, which equipped attendees with knowledge and tools they can immediately apply to their businesses to maintain competitive advantage and reevaluate their growth strategy.
Attendees wrapped-up their time at the event with two more phenomenal speakers. Mark Herbick, CEO of Pursant LLC, lead attendees Saturday morning through a session discussing recent mergers and acquisitions activity in the BSC sector. This session helped arm business leaders with the facts and insights they needed in order to prepare for and execute strategic transactions in 2019.
To close out the 2019 seminar, attendees heard from Chuck Violand, founder of Violand Management Associates. During his session, Violand shared six strategies leaders of successful businesses use to maintain winning streaks and stay at the top of their game.
“Going to events like the BSCAI CEO Seminar are akin to taking time to ‘sharpen the saw,’” explained Eric Luke, president of Varsity Facility Services, a KBS company, and chair for the CEO Seminar planning committee.
The concept of “sharpening the saw” is something Luke learned from author Stephen Covey, and takes to heart when it comes to these events.
“Some people say, ‘I’m too busy to sharpen the saw,’ and then they get dull in their leadership. I consider the BSCAI CEO Seminar an opportunity to quit sawing and get out a tool to sharpen myself. That’s the real benefit of these industry-specific educational opportunities, and I come back with a sharper edge,” Luke said.
Other event highlights included afternoon outings at the Cayman Spirits Distillery and Stingray Sandbar and Reef Sail.
The CEO Seminar is truly the place for leaders of small, medium and large organizations to come together and network, discover effective leadership approaches, key business growth strategies and high-impact solutions all in one, beautiful location.
