The time to start thinking about purchasing ice melt isn’t when the weather plummets to extreme cold temperatures or when snow starts falling. This decision should be done well in advance of the winter months, preferably in the summer time. Even though most distributors keep supplies on hand until the winter season is clearly over, if a facility hasn’t put in the order, it probably isn’t going to be first on the list to get what it needs. And with ice melt shortages the last couple of winter seasons leaving many customers empty-handed, planning earlier than later will ensure end users will have enough product to get through the harshest of winters. End users are advised to make arrangements with manufacturers or distributors that have early-buy programs and offer better pricing for booking shipments early. End users should also look for a company that doesn’t require them to take all the stock up front and will ensure that their needs are met.
