Treating Dust Mops

The first line of defense in any floor maintenance program, daily dust mopping greatly reduces wear and prolongs a floor’s appearance by removing dry soils. But in between scheduled mopping, proper care must be accounted for. By properly treating a dust mop with dust mop treatment, it can help extend the life of a floor and help maintain its pristine shine.

By treating a dust mop, it attracts dirt and dust from the floor like a magnet and eliminates it from being kicked up into the air while mopping.

There are a few important steps to consider when properly treating dust mops. In fact, if a custodian takes a dust mop, applies dust mop treatment to it and then turns right around and uses it immediately, he or she is going to leave oil on the floor and make the floor slippery.

The key to properly treating a dust mop is to take a new dust mop, wash it, spray all sides of the mop with treatment, roll it into a ball and put it in a plastic bag and let it sit for 24 hours. The oil will permeate the entire mop and then when the user goes to use the mop, no oil residue will transfer onto the floor and it will allow cleaning crews to better maintain a floor’s shine for a long period of time.
