Biobased drain and grease trap maintainers are growing in popularity as end users increase their understanding of how they work. These products contain strains of enzyme-producing bacteria that eat waste found in drains and traps as well as septic systems and sewage treatment facilities.

The enzymes, or proteins that break down complex molecules, digest fat, grease, protein, carbohydrates, starches and other organic waste that can clog drains and traps. By converting those molecules into carbon dioxide and water, enzymatic drain and trap cleaners also eliminate the odor associated with those bacteria.

It does not harm metal pipes, or produce fumes or heat with the breaking down of obstructions.
