After carpet spotting, your work may not be done. Keep these carpet care steps in mind:

Clean the Pile: There are many approaches to cleaning. None is perfect. They all have benefits and limitations that would cause you to choose different approaches, depending on the situation that faces you. We will go into detailed procedures for each approach in later articles. The key is to learn as much as you can about the carpet fiber, how it was installed, its strengths and weaknesses as to the type products to use and the safest way to approach the job.

Groom the Pile: Pile grooming is an important ingredient in a finished professional appearance to the carpet cleaning task. Like combing your hair after you wash it, pile grooming lifts and separates the face yarns so they reflect light and have a consistent look. This not only gives a more finished appearance, it also speeds the dry time for the fibers. The longer the face yarns, the more necessary this step becomes. On short, level loop carpet, it is sometimes not necessary to use a pile groomer.

Dry: Especially in commercial installations where there may be limited time available before the carpet is to be used again, it may be necessary to speed dry by the use of squirrel cage floor blowers and/or dehumidifiers. This can dramatically reduce the dry time along with having the HVAC operating to remove humidity. If you have a very short time until reuse, you may want to consider a low moisture approach to cleaning to begin with. That way you don’t have to worry about the extra equipment (and expense) for the dry time.

The goal is to impress the customer with not only the cleanliness of the carpet free of spots and stains but also its overall appearance.
