In the next few articles, we will discuss converting a building from Zone Cleaning to High Performance Team Cleaning.  Please reference the last two days worth of articles for background details.

Continuation of Zone Cleaning improvements:

1. Conduct rigorous training of all Zone Cleaners in the use of Daily Job Cards with specific times allocated for each area.

2. Where possible, schedule air vents and high dusting to be cleaned by another worker utilizing a back pack on a Quadrant Cleaning schedule.

3. Reduce the chemicals to 3-5 basic, color coded products identical to what will be used by the Team Cleaning crews.

4. Time study each worker to identify training or scheduling issues that will increase productivity.  Examples include:

a.Have worker leave trash by elevator or other staging area for a Utility Specialist to pick up and dispose in dumpster.

b.Provide quality lamb’s wool dusters with sleeves to better dusting.

c.Identify how many private rest rooms, break rooms and other areas will require mopping with goal of eliminating dust mopping/sweeping by utilizing one use flat mops.

d.Remove additional tasks such as outside policing, stairwells, elevators, common areas and assign to a Team Cleaning Specialist.

5. Verify that the Zone Cleaner is not distracted by tenants demanding special services unless it is part of the contract.

6. On a monthly basis, retune the tasks looking for improvements so that quality outcomes and productivity gradually increases over time.

7. Require a supervisor or lead worker to daily inspect equipment, barrel, cloths to make sure that tools are suitable for the job and being used correctly.

We will continue these thoughts in the next article.
