Which Type Of Mop Is Best?

In a recent interview, a SME (Subject Matter Expert) described how he used a microfiber flat mop system that entails single flat mops, a charging bucket and an inflexible Velcro type pad holder. Several of my readers commented that they preferred other systems that varied from the double bucket/butterfly mop system to the Velcro type pads with a built in carafe that injects solution from the bottle. Others noted that they had different systems that required wearing a backpack of solution (often times for floor finish) while others simply argued that standard string mops worked for them due to heavy loads and soiling. 

Who is right? The answer, of course, is all of them are right. There is no one system that will work perfectly in every situation. 

I remember recommending that a BSC (Building Service Contractor) convert from the throw away string mops to a microfiber system but I did not specify which one would work best in their particular situation. I am careful not to endorse a brand or product in most cases. They called their vendor and said “Mickey wants us to switch to microfiber mops.” The vendor promptly sold them over $30,000 worth of the wrong type mopping system because that was the brand they carried. The BSC’s productivity has gone down and they are very frustrated with me. Needless to say, I am still apologizing for recommending microfiber to them.

Please remember to ALWAYS test out a product before making a large purchase. Compare it to other brands and competitive systems. Do not blindly choose one system over another since you may need to use one product (butterfly) in one type account and string mops in another for very practical reasons.
