Periodically I like to get back to the basics of cleaning since we all can benefit from reminders along the way for the steps necessary to clean a facility effectively and safely.
Following are some suggested steps in cleaning/servicing a conference taking into account that use, traffic, floor type and profile may dictate different steps:
1. Always use the sniff test when entering a room. Does it smell musty? Is there a food or pet odor? Does it smell dusty? How are you equipped to deal with this challenge? What can you do to prevent its reoccurrence?
2. Pull any trash cans, clean inside and out as necessary and reline. This is very important if liquids and food have been consumed. Replace liners where they were so that you do not get an unnecessary complaint.
3. Working left to right and top to bottom, dust (on predetermined frequency) giving special attention to spider webs and “fuzzy” walls due to static electricity.
4. On a regular basis (quadrant cleaning) all fabric seats should be vacuumed although they should be inspected daily for crumbs and spills.
5. Inspect and clean phone headset and keys when practical.
6. Clean marker boards, TV/video screens and their stands only when allowed to do so.
7. Clean table with appropriate product. Example: a Formica table top should be cleaned and polished with a neutral detergent and soft cloth (preferably microfiber) whereas a real wood table top should be cleaned/polished with an oil-based product and buffed with a soft towel.
8. Inspect and brush or vacuum under table for dust, food particles other debris.
9. Low dust all chair legs, cross bars, baseboards and chair rail trim as per quadrant cleaning schedule.
10. Inspect and clean any glass surfaces, mirrors, picture frames, plaques, etc.
A conference room can be a reflection on the customer and should always make a great first impression. Your comments and questions are important. I hope to hear from you soon. Until then, keep it clean...
