One definition of effective training is that which brings about a change in attitude and action. If you have chosen the right trainer, you will want to get the most from his/her time at your facility but supporting him/her in any way you can. Too many times I have experienced poor support from the host which resulted in less effective training outcomes. I suggest that the host, or assigned point of contact make themselves available during the day just in case there are changes, technical issues, etc. I have experienced losing the WiFi connection and could not find anyone to reconnect me. I have also had the projector fail (usually the bulb), run out of sheets of flip chart paper or had other minor incidents that threw the class off. Please make it a point of checking in on the trainer and even providing a phone number or other procedure for him/her to easily get assistance.
Another point to consider is to be clear on food (snacks, breakfast and possibly lunch) so that the trainer can plan accordingly. I oftentimes invite the distributor to provide pizza or sandwiches for a working lunch. They are encouraged to speak on a topic such as safety, chemical knowledge, etc. that is not heavy marketing but establishes them as the go to person or SME (subject matter expert) to the attendees. Instead of a long lunch with attendees having to find a restaurant and return on time, it allows for a more casual environment. Another thing the host distributor can do is give brief tour of their site (assuming the class is held there) to reinforce their credentials. Benefits of such a working luncheon is that attendees hear from someone else and also save a few dollars. Since most distributors have a budget for such events this can be a win/win.
Bottom line is make it easy for your trainer to do their job.
Your comments and questions are important. I hope to hear from you soon. Until then, keep it clean...
