A healthy custodian (regardless of position) is more productive than an unhealthy one. Please note that there are many custodians who have various issues that would stop most of us, yet they come to work and are productive every day. Sometimes they work in spite of pain or obstacles that may or may impact their day to day duties.

The purpose of this article is to address the rest of us who can improve our health by changing our eating and exercise habits. So far, I have dropped 42 pounds (under doctor’s supervision) by choosing better foods in controlled portions while exercising every day. My goal is to lose another 30 or 40 which may take up to a year. The key is that I am headed in the right direction.

Through exercise, I have become much more flexible which means I can bend, twist, stoop and lift without the strain and discomfort I experienced before. I can bend over and tie my shoes without straining!!! As you may know, my job entails consulting where I may have to get on my hands and knees to examine a floor or demonstrate a task. It was embarrassing when it required assistance to get back up. I also have found that my feet are holding up much better when walking accounts, using stairs and simply having to stand for periods of time that would have left me miserable just a few months ago. I am sleeping better and feel rested when I wake up.

Finally, my suits fit again and I can wear shirts that would not even button before which gave me that balloon head look when my I tried to wear a tie. The reduced weight and increased flexibility has been great in so many ways. Please note that I was monitored and encouraged by my doctor and I listened carefully to his advice as he reduced and/or eliminated my meds.

I hope this testimonial will encourage you to consider your health as a primary part of who you are. If you have a condition that cannot be addressed by exercise and diet, then I applaud you for your commitment and dedication. Thanks for all you do.

Your comments and questions are important. I hope to hear from you soon. Until then, keep it clean...
