Benefits Of Certification For Hospital Workers

In order to become ASSE Series 12000 Certified, one must first possess an OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification, complete training in ASSE Standards 12010, 12030 and 12040, and pass written exams consisting of a minimum of 25 questions each on 12010, 12030, and 12040, with a minimum passing score of 80 percent for each exam. The certification is for three years, at which time an individual will need to recertify by completing a minimum 3-hour course and successfully pass a written exam of 25 questions for each the 12010, 12030, and 12040, with a score of at least 80 percent. For employers who wish to become ASSE 12020 certified, they must first possess an OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification, complete a minimum eight-hour 12020 course, and pass a 25-question exam with a minimum passing score of 80 percent. The certification is for three years, at which time an employer will need to recertify by completing a minimum one-hour course and successfully pass a written exam of 25 questions with a score of at least 80 percent.

There are two goals for the ASSE Series 12000. One is to provide people working in conditions where they may be exposed to dangerous pathogens and/or infectious disease with training and certification that will help protect them from exposure and harm. The second is to provide health care facilities with the very best trained and certified construction and maintenance workers, which will reduce HAIs in patients. When all is said and done, it will be a win-win for health care facilities and the construction industry.
