The discussion of staffing and workloading is a complex issue with many variables. Once a person has been hired after the appropriate screening process, they must be trained in company policies and processes so they become a functional part of the team. They need a sense of belonging to a team that has a clear focus and goals. They need to understand their part in the entire scheme of things and the importance of the tasks they perform.
Answering the question: “What do you want me to do?” is crucial in that terms need to be defined clearly. There are many interpretations of some words so it is incumbent upon the company to clarify each one that could have an impact on final results.
No one wants to send a novice to clean an office area without training to task as well as an orientation of the actual space. It is usually wise to have a fellow team member coach or mentor the new hire. Even more important is choosing a coach or mentor how knows the company processes and has an outstanding work ethic. The worst mistake an organization can make is to assign a worker who is marginally productive, has a bad attitude or is not fully engaged in their job.
Staffing a one person account or a million square foot facility require the same fundamental steps for successful outcomes. If the owner can “clone” his best habits and practices into subordinate team leaders, he can have confidence to grow the business knowing that current customers are being serviced properly. In fact, he/she may find someone who is far better at interviewing, hiring and training that he/she is which is certainly a sign of good management skills.
Your comments and questions are important. I hope to hear from you soon. Until then, keep it clean….
