While lobbies and waiting rooms may be carpeted, a vast majority of most medical and healthcare facilities are covered with tile or linoleum. Medical facilities are among the only ones that require not only cleaning but routine sanitation and disinfection of hard floors.
The demand for green cleaning has grown in healthcare settings, as it is safer for building occupants, especially those in vulnerable populations such as the sick and the elderly. However, EPA approval for a green disinfectant is still in the pilot program stage, but care should still be taken in choosing a safe chemical. Look for those that have been approved for LEED buildings and by GS-42 standards.
