I tend to personalize some of my articles in hopes of relating to readers who may be facing similar circumstances. I woke up one day and realized that I was my own worst enemy when it came to my health. I was overweight, winded, tired, sleeping poorly and really ashamed of the fact that I had to buying larger clothing. What good was I as a manager if I did not manage my health, deal with stress, and be a better example to others?
My physician challenged me to lose 30-40 pounds with the reward that he would take me off all or most of my medications. For whatever reason, I responded in a positive, proactive manner by researching the subject, which included types of foods and their impact on my metabolism. So far, I have dropped 34 pounds with only 26 to go for my first goal. I monitor it in 10 pound increments and allow for the reality of having plateaus which I regard as times for my body to reset.
I either walk or use the elliptical most days whether at home or on the road. I have consistently lost 2-4 pounds while on travel, which is a small miracle within itself. I can eat at almost any fast food restaurant and still lose weight simply by choosing the right foods for my particular needs (which may not be what works for you).
The key point I am trying to make is that you are not going to be very productive if you suffer a stroke, heart attack, get diabetes or have no energy because of your lifestyle choices. I challenge you to speak with your doctor and set achievable goals so that you can be around for a long time to come. A healthy janitor is a more productive janitor. Your comments and questions are important. I hope to hear from you soon. Until then, keep it clean...
