In addition to the more popular upright, backpack and canister vacuums, some manufacturers have created vacuum packs that sit on a janitor’s hips. These hip vacuums fasten a lightweight canister, typically less than 10 pounds, which sits on the lower back just above the hips, and attaches to the user on a belt clipped at the hips. Accessory tools are typically included on the belt, giving janitors access to a variety of hard-to-reach spaces.

These smaller, lighter vacuums are best suited for light daily work of small or medium-sized spaces in which user maneuverability is desired. Cords are typically up to 50 feet long, allowing janitors to vacuum offices and other smaller spaces in one pass.
