To reduce contaminants from being tracked into facilities, proper entry matting should be established. And as much as custodial supervisors focus on the interior of a facility, an efficient matting program actually starts outside entrances. When developing a matting program and considering outdoor matting, custodial supervisors must think about their geographic region.

For instance, facilities in the Western region will have different outdoor matting needs than a building in Chicago. In dry climates, scraping mats featuring grills and grates that remove larger debris are sufficient. At the same time, in regions where the elements change frequently, these scraper mats must be used in conjunction with absorbency features to reduce both debris and moisture from being tracked inside.

Distributors and manufacturers alike can provide recommendations on what outdoor matting options are best suited for your facility.
