Finishes and strippers were traditionally some of the harshest floor care chemicals out there, precisely because of the tough job they have. As green chemicals have evolved, however, to include finishes and strippers. Correctly pairing these products is crucial to the life and quality of a floor.

According to Green Seal, select products that don't contain carcinogens, reproductive toxins, zinc and other metals, ammonia, ammonium hydroxide, dibutyl phthalate, alkylphenol ethoxylates. Products should have a pH lower than 11.5 and low VOC concentrations. Green strippers will only work on green finishes. They are not strong enough for traditional metal interlock finishes.
