While insects and rodents cause problems inside a building, pigeons, geese, seagulls and other birds can be a nuisance outside. But, bird control is a sensitive issue. Facilities can’t simply eliminate birds like they do rodents or insects. Instead, birds need to be relocated using nets or spikes to keep them from roosting. Other products include ultrasonic bird repellents that use quiet ultrasonic sounds to evict birds. Air treatment systems that release a non-toxic mist, fog or scent that irritates birds’ trigeminal nerve and mucous membranes through entry through the eyes, nose or mouth are also effective.

Birds can be especially problematic because people can contract diseases from bird droppings. Facilities are encouraged to remove droppings immediately and sterilize the affected areas.
