In retail environments, stores are moving away from waxed surfaces and adopting polished concrete flooring. Caring for and maintaining polished concrete is quite different from the cleaning program for waxed floors.
To start, the concrete requires less maintenance: no stripping and waxing and no daily buffing. Concrete flooring still gets daily dust-mopping and autoscrubbing like a waxed floor would, but the additional maintenance that a waxed surface gets is not necessary.
However, concrete flooring is not a “maintenance-free” floor, contrary to what some may say. General, all-purpose concrete cleaners and conditioners will do the trick for daily mopping needs. Concrete floors do need to be polished regularly with a liquid concrete polish, depending on foot traffic. High volume stores may need to be polished as often as once a week, while others may only need it a few times a year.
