The Building Service Employee of the Year Award from Building Services Contractors Association International (BSCAI) recognizes a building service contracting employee whose work ethic, performance, and community involvement go above and beyond. This year’s recipient is Cesar Chapiama of Direct Clean Solutions, Long Island City, New York.
When Chapiama first arrived in the United States nearly 18 years ago, he considered working at several different companies, and eventually landed on Direct Clean because of the promising work environment and professional growth opportunities. As he learned more about the commercial cleaning industry and improved his craft, his strong passion for connecting with customers and teammates alike continued to grow.
“The part of my job that I enjoy the most is leading cleaning teams doing project work,” says Chapiama. “The interaction with the cleaners and using my experience to teach them the most efficient ways to achieve our objectives fills me with satisfaction.”
Chapiama's top priorities on the job are health and safety. As a team supervisor, he emphasizes the importance of following protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
"I try to lead by example,” he says. “I use appropriate PPE when called for; use warning signs when needed; promptly report any risky situation to prevent accidents; and I encourage the team to do the same."
With each passing year, Chapiama's positive leadership and influence at Direct Clean only continues to grow.
I have dedicated my last 18 years to this company, and I hope to continue doing so until I retire," says Chapiama. "I am enthusiastic about the new challenges and opportunities to learn that the company is bringing to me."
