We often tout the value of networking in these pages — and for good reason. One of the best ways to learn is to share.

Networking isn’t a new idea — from Parisian salons dating back to the 17th century, to the book groups, coffee klatches and entrepreneurs’ clubs of today, people have long sought means of getting together to discuss topics of mutual interest. But conversation, today, is both harder and easier than before — we’re too busy to allow one more activity into our schedules. On the other hand, conventions, trade shows, computers and even the good old telephone also offer inexpensive, convenient networking opportunities.

If you’re technologically inclined, try our forums on CleanLink. There, you’ll be able to post questions and comments about cleaning, bidding, magazine articles — any relevant information you choose. It’s at your leisure, and it’s free. (You will need to register to post, but that’s free, too.)

Another good way to share information with colleagues is by attending conventions and trade shows, including the ISSA/INTERCLEAN®-USA show, Oct. 15 - 17 in Chicago’s McCormick Place North. We’ve partnered again this year with ISSA to bring you an outstanding lineup of speakers, including several seminars from CP contributors. When you’re there, stop by our booth, No. 917, and we can chat, too.

Also this month, with our cover story, we offer the beginnings of a networking dialogue. This collaborative effort features bits of advice from a variety of sources, including consultants, general business authors and building service contractors. These short articles can complement your busy schedule — you can read them in between educational sessions at the trade show (in print or online).

Since networking is two-way, I encourage you to share your business ideas and observations. Post your tricks, tips and ideas to the forum, stop by our booth or send them to my attention (e-mail, phone and address are at right). We’ll run them in upcoming issues or on CleanLink from time to time.

We’ve got a multitude of opportunities for conversation in coming weeks, so I hope we all can find a little time to share, listen and learn.
