The 2009 Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI) Convention and Trade Show comes home as this year’s show will take place in the association’s base city of Chicago. From March 6 to 9, building service contractors will network, view the newest product innovations and find inspiration, education and motivation at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.
This year’s convention features two keynote speakers. On Saturday, March 7, Mary R. Crane will discuss “Bridging the Generation Gap.” Attendees will learn the values, attitudes and outlooks of the four different generations employed in the workforce today and how to bring everyone together. Former NASA astronaut Colonel Mark Mullane will share “Countdown to Teamwork” on Sunday, March 8. This motivational speech will teach attendees how to be successful team leaders and team members.
Last year, BSCAI and ISSA formed a strategic partnership and through this cooperation the two associations agreed to collaborate on events. As a result, two certification sessions will be offered at the show. First, Jim Peduto, president of Matrix Integrated Facility Management and Contracting Profits columnist, will present “CIMS: Five Pillars of Management Success” on March 7. This session will focus on ISSA’s Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) certification and its five principles of effective management. Later that day, BSCs can attend “CIMS, CBSE and RBSM Certification: Elevate Yourself and Your Organization” to learn how the three designations work in conjunction with each other and how they can raise the professionalism of the industry.
The trade show runs two days and will allow BSCs the chance to visit with colleagues and see new products. The latest innovations will be featured in the center of the trade show floor, in the New Product Showcase, an exhibit debuting at the show. To watch products in action, demonstrations will be held on the show floor.
After the exhibit hall closes each day, attendees should stick around for the educational sessions. This year’s topics include successful acquisitions, reducing insurance costs, immigration laws, pandemics and more.
Another educational opportunity is the CEO Summit, held on Friday, March 6. Chip Conley, founder and CEO of Joie de Vivre Hospitality will discuss “Leading a PEAK Company: Engaging Employees, Customers and Investors.” This summit will teach CEOs how to forge deep relationships to achieve business success.
To survive this rough economic environment, building service contractors will need education and the best products. At BSCAI, attendees will have access to both.
