president

Despite scaling back on his involvement with Clean All Services, the opposite can be said regarding Shuchat and BSCAI. As incoming president for 2025, Shuchat is excited to execute the strategic plan of the association and lead the organization over the course of its 60th year.

Though he officially took over in January, Shuchat and the BSCAI board have been engaged in a strategic planning process that outlines the plans for 2025 and beyond.

“We identified three main strategic priorities: growth, engagement, and education. Those are broad areas, but they all have huge opportunities for our association and membership,” notes Shuchat.

On the education front, the push to expand opportunities is a goal Shuchat hopes to build upon when considering recent successful improvements to the seminars and workshops provided by the association. A notable example would be the enhancement of the Bidding and Estimating Seminar hosted annually at the Contracting Success Conference. With the help of a committee, the 2024 event featured two different half-day courses: one for beginners as well as an advanced option. Doing so provided the opportunity for those who have experienced the fundamentals course to expand to more complex projects, while also increasing the overall reach of the event to more experienced BSCs.

Shuchat says similar efforts are being made for members in 2025, notably when it comes to digital education opportunities.

We’re stepping up our game when it comes to education. We're planning on launching another virtual summit,” shares Shuchat. “We currently have four of them, but a fifth is in the works focused on technology. The ongoing expansion has been very well received.

For newcomers and semi-retired industry veterans alike, Shuchat wants BSCAI’s community and events to serve as a reminder that learning and improvement never stops. Anybody can make a name for themselves if they have the patience and the drive.

The barriers to entry for cleaning are more about what you're willing to give. You don't need a lot of capital,” says Shuchat. “You want to be a part of something like BSCAI because you can find out all the mistakes that you're about to make from people that have already made them — and they are more than willing to tell you what not to do.”?
