In 1997, Contracting Profits ran its first cover story on women in the industry, and then-editor Wendy Loerch lamented that far too often, women weren’t being taken seriously. She recalled being called “honey” and “darlin’” by male building service contractors, and even had her credibility as an editor called into question because of her gender.

In this month’s cover story, frequent contributor Lori Veit revisits the topic of female leadership in the industry, and what she finds is encouraging. Although the women profiled say they occasionally get mistaken for spouses or guests rather than business leaders, and they do sometimes have to speak louder and more assertively to get their point across, they’re also gaining respect.

Also in this issue is our annual guide to the ISSA/Interclean® show. Contracting Profits and our sister publication, Housekeeping Solutions, are again sponsoring a seminar track Wednesday, Nov. 17, specifically dedicated to the needs of BSCs and other facility service providers.

As always, if you’re attending the New Orleans show, please stop by our booth (#3105) and let us know what’s on your mind.
