Learn Pandemic Preparedness and How To Keep Employees At WFBSC 2014

As contractors already know, cleaning impacts the health of building occupants. If there’s another SARS or H1N1 outbreak, why shouldn’t the World Health Organization turn to the WFBSC for support? Through proper cleaning, BSCs can limit the spread of viruses and prevent global pandemics from happening.

“Cleaning involves the removal of contaminants from a facility,” says Doobin. “Those containments come in many forms from everyday dirt to more dangerous viruses that can make people very sick. Today’s cleaning methods use products and procedures that focus on where these viruses survive and thrive.”

Dr. Richard E. Besser, ABC News’ chief health and medical editor, will discuss “Pandemic Preparedness and Public Health.” While serving as the acting director for the CDC and acting administrator for the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, Besser led the CDC response to the H1N1 influenza outbreak in 2009.

Also, Jerome Peribere, CEO of Sealed Air, will discuss the “Value of Clean” — the idea that BSCs provide more than a clean appearance, but also a hygienic workplace.

Labor is BSCs’ largest expense, so it’s important to find employees worth the investment. In the People theme, attendees will learn how to recruit, hire and retain the best workers.

“People are our business — everyone wants to know the latest strategies to find, hire and keep top talent,” says Doobin.

To find new employees, BSCs can’t ignore the younger generation. Dr. Gustavo Grodnitzky, an expert in Generation Y, will uncover “five big myths” about Millenials.

BSCs will also learn how to get these new employees to stick around. Mary Miller, CEO and owner of JANCOA Janitorial Service Inc., will share her Dream Manager program, an employee retention strategy and the basis of a book. When employers help employees reach their dreams, they create a workplace no one wants to leave.

In addition to these themed presentations, attendees will hear Markus Asch, deputy CEO and vice chairman management board for Kärcher, discuss technology and how it will evolve in the future. Author and psychotherapist Sean Stephenson will motivate BSCs to “Get Off Their ‘But’” and overcome self-doubt in their lives and businesses. Born with osteogenesis imperfecta, which stunts growth and causes bones to break easily, Stephenson has overcome many obstacles in his life and believes attendees can do the same.
 
WFBSC has also assembled a renowned panel of cleaning experts to further the discussion of the three big ideas, as well as host a Q&A. Panel members include Doobin, Henrik Slipsager, president and CEO of ABM Industries, Jeff Gravenhorst, group CEO ISS, Claude Bigras, CEO GDI Facility Services, and more.
