The ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) certification program saw record growth in 2010 as it more than doubled the number of in-house and contract cleaning firms currently certified. The organizations certified this year were recognized at the ISSA/INTERCLEAN® North America 2010 tradeshow, prior to the Wednesday, November 10, general session by football great Joe Theismann.
In addition to the firms that were newly certified as CIMS or CIMS-GB organizations — 37 in total — there were another 25 who recertified or added the new CIMS-Green Building (GB) designation to their existing accolades. The 2010 class of CIMS certified firms now brings the program to a total of 78 organizations.
CIMS applies to management, operations, performance systems, and processes. Compliance with the Standard demonstrates that an organization is structured to deliver consistent, quality services designed to meet the customers' needs and expectations. The new CIMS-GB dimension, recently included in the revised U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design — Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance — LEED-EB:O&M — rating system, focuses on the delivery of environmentally preferable cleaning service.

About CIMS
CIMS applies to management, operations, and performance systems. Compliance demonstrates that an organization is structured to deliver consistent, quality services designed to meet the customer's needs and expectations. It sets forth processes, procedures, and supporting documentation proven to be characteristic of customer-driven organizations. Given that CIMS is non-prescriptive, each organization has the flexibility to choose the most effective ways in which to meet its requirements. For more information about CIMS or CIMS-GB, visit www.issa.com/standard.
The CIMS-GB dimension focuses on the delivery of environmentally preferable cleaning service and offers organizations a certification that is closely tailored to provide customers with precisely what they need to secure points under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance—i.e., LEED-EB: O&M—rating system while greening operations overall.
