Two years ago, I met with managers here at Trade Press Media Group (the parent company of Facility Cleaning Decisions magazine, CleanLink and other media brands) to discuss the need for an event that highlighted cleaning managers and building service contractors. End users desired educational offerings and an event they could call their own.

Many of you might not be aware, but Trade Press is the creator of the NFMT, so strong educational conferences and thriving expo/show floors are not beyond our wheelhouse. In fact, it only made sense that if we were to create a cleaning event, we pair it with an already successful facility management and maintenance show.

Since that initial meeting, we researched topics and speakers to construct the best of the best education, and we welcomed a partnership with ISSA. It didn’t take long before Clean Buildings Expo was born.

I just returned from the inaugural event — which was held in Baltimore March 26 and 27 — and I couldn’t be more pleased with how it all turned out.

Attendees chose from 21 cleaning-specific educational sessions offered by Clean Buildings Expo, but also had options from more than 100 sessions offered through NFMT. If that wasn’t enough, after a morning of learning, show floor doors opened to reveal new products and technologies in cleaning, as well as experts on hand to provide demos.

I also had the opportunity to sit down with some of my favorite industry experts to discuss topics covering infection control, productivity challenges, workloading, emerging technologies and creating best practices for employee engagement. These “Clean Talk” chats were held on the show floor and broadcast throughout Clean Buildings Expo.

To top it off, our co-location allowed attendees access to the NFMT show floor — the largest facility management gathering in North America. There, they could research products in maintenance, ADA-compliance, pest control and more.

Overall, the entire event was a huge success.

One facility cleaning manager shared his excitement by saying, “Finally, an event just for us! This is the best!” Another complemented the pairing of Cleaning Buildings Expo with NFMT because, “Now I can get everything I need in one place.”

The feedback we received in just two short days is more than enough to validate the two years of hard work it took to get this event off the ground. I’m excited to build upon what we did this year and make Clean Buildings Expo 2020 even better. Save the date for March 17 and 18 in Baltimore. I’ll see you there!
