Time is money and money is always tight, especially in custodial departments across the country. When asked about their annual operations, more custodial executives respond that budgets are often static and will not change, regardless of workload. In other words, the saying, “Doing more with less,” is still alive and well.

But, there is good news for 2014. According to the survey, although they aren’t necessarily going up, custodial managers comment that departmental budget cuts are a thing of the past. This is a 180-degree shift from 2011 surveys. 

Although budget cuts aren’t expected, managers are still streamlining their processes and product purchases to create efficiencies. This is important because after labor, product purchasing makes up the largest chunk of budgetary dollars.

In addition to labor and product purchasing, the survey breaks down the largest budgetary line items, as well as a few management issues, and identifies changes managers expect to see in 2014.
