The National Sanitary Supply Association (NSSA) was launched in July 1923 to promote an exchange of ideas among sanitary supply distributors throughout the United States. And in 1966, NSSA changed its name to the International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) to reflect its growing international membership. Even though ISSA is now considered the leading international trade association for the cleaning industry, it wasn’t until recently that the association opened its membership to both in-house facility managers and building service contractors. Today, ISSA services more than 5,000 distributor, wholesaler, manufacturer, manufacturer representative, facility service provider, publisher and associate members around the world.

ISSA’s goal: encourage its members’ professionalism; increase knowledge and business ethics; and develop management skills. This is accomplished with multiple educational products, technologies, legislative and regulatory services, periodicals, and most of all, the cleaning industry’s largest trade show.

Touted as “The One Show for the Cleaning Industry,” ISSA/INTERCLEAN® USA 2006 will be held at Chicago’s McCormick Place from October 4-7. In-house managers visiting this year’s show are encouraged to take advantage of many new programs that make the show bigger and better than ever.

For those of you who are anxious to find new products, check out the ISSA Innovation Revue. If education is your goal, sit in on one of the many seminars covering everything from industry certification updates and green cleaning tips to new product demos. (Additional information on seminars can be found in Industry Buzz.) Managers are well advised to also attend one of the show’s biggest events – the keynote address by Rudolph W. Giuliani, who will speak on the principles of leadership and how to face – and conquer – day-to-day obstacles.
