According to the 2014 Reader Survey, green cleaning procedures have almost become commonplace. In other words, managers no longer have to go out of their way to find “green” products or implement cleaning procedures that have less impact on the environment.

That’s not to say it isn’t still top of mind, because in fact, it is. Managers still look for green certifications when purchasing products and equipment, but now, it’s to support departmental sustainability efforts.

This survey revealed big shifts in the amount of products managers are purchasing with sustainability in mind. The demand for sustainable carpet equipment and chemicals, soaps, mopping equipment, hand tools, floor equipment and even ice melt saw big jumps from managers.

And not only are managers considering sustainability for their own departments, growing survey respondents expect the manufacturers and distributors supplying the department to also practice sustainability.
