Dyson engineer Alex Knox has been invited to discuss Dyson’s approach to creating more energy efficient technologies at the 2012 Sustainable Operations Summit on April 17-19 in New York City.  The summit brings together the brightest minds in business and sustainability including President Bill Clinton, actor and environmentalist Don Cheadle, and Trudie Styler, Co-Founder of the Rainforest Foundation, to exchange ideas to address energy and environmental challenges.
 
Knox, one of Dyson’s first engineers – starting in a work shed with James Dyson and rising to be its industrial design director – will be discussing how green isn’t important at Dyson.  Rather than set out to create a green vacuum or hand dryer, Dyson engineers start with efficiency, looking at every aspect of a machine to ensure that it solves problems and works better.
 
In his remarks, Knox will also discuss how consumers shouldn’t be forced to buy ‘green’ products as it’s manufacturers who should take responsibility and make genuine, rather than token, improvements. They should do this by making products more efficient and better performing.
