On March 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern, CleanLink.com will host the webcast, “Preventing the Spread of C. diff,” presented by Rick Macher, director of compliance and research for the Workplace Safety Awareness Council. Macher is also the director of research and development for ProMed Alliance International's SafeHouse Environmental Services.

Clostridium difficile, commonly known as C. diff, is anything but common when it comes to its effect on hospitals, nursing homes and other health care settings. Causing diarrhea, severe abdominal cramping and pain—and sometimes resulting in in kidney failure or even death—C. diff infects or colonizes 13 out of every 1,000 patients or approximately 7,178 inpatients on any given day, according to a 2008 report by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology. The same study claimed C. diff infections cost between $17.6 million to $51.5 million and kill between 165 and 438 patients daily.

In this 60-minute webcast, participants will learn why C. diff is on the rise, why and how it has become more prominent, and how to put a program in place to help prevent its spread.

More specifically, the webcast will enable audience members to:
• Understand C. diff, including how it is spread and what kills it
• Identify areas at highest risk for contamination and contact precautions
• Address kill claims and proper cleaning procedures
• Learn training practices to mitigate the spread of C. diff

CleanLink is offering the “Preventing the Spread of C. diff” at no cost and is authorized by IACET to award 0.1 continuing education units for registered attendees.

The event is sponsored by Deb USA and Deb Med.
