Spartan Chemical Company, Inc., a manufacturer of sustainable cleaning and sanitation solutions for the industrial and institutional market, is offering a CleanCheck training module designed to train workers on the GHS‐modified OSHA HazCom standard.
 
OSHA introduced the Chemical Hazard Communication Program or HazCom, in 1983. Last year, OSHA modified HazCom to conform to the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals, commonly referred to as GHS. GHS is a system for standardizing and harmonizing the classification on chemical safety data sheets and their labeling.
 
The transition to GHS will take place over the next few years, completing by June 1, 2016. However, according to OSHA requirements, employers must train employees regarding the new label elements and safety data sheet format by December 1, 2013.
 
“This required training, including recognition of the new pictograms and orientation to Safety Data Sheets, is covered in our new CleanCheck tutorial,” said Greg Ford, vice president of sales. “Similar training programs are being sold for up to $300 per person. Spartan offers our CleanCheck training tools as a free download to our distributors and their Spartan customers.”
