OSHA Implements New Injury Reporting Rules

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) revised injury reporting requirements have gone into effect as of January 1, 2015.

Under the revised regulations, all employers are required to notify OSHA of work-related fatalities within eight hours and work-related inpatient hospitalizations, amputations, or losses of an eye within 24 hours. Previously, employers were required to report all workplace fatalities and when three or more workers were hospitalized in the same incident.

OSHA provides three options for reporting such severe incidents:
1.  Employers can contact their nearest area OSHA office during normal business hours
2.  Call the 24-hour OSHA hotline at 1-800-321-OSHA (1-800-321-6742)
3.  File a report online via OSHA’s website.
