SmartDrive Systems, developer of performance solutions that reduce collisions and improve fuel efficiency, announced that WAXIE Sanitary Supply, America’s largest independently-owned distributor of sanitary maintenance supplies is transitioning its entire fleet to SmartDrive’s video-based safety program. WAXIE turned to SmartDrive to better protect its drivers and company with a solution that targets its specific risk areas.

WAXIE’s fleet will be outfitted with SmartDrive Assurance, a configurable program that empowers fleets to focus on their top priority collision risks, including those caused by backing, unintended lane changes, roll-overs and close following from passenger vehicles. After switching from a competitive solution, WAXIE has already dramatically improved its safety score by 44 percent and decreased other key risk metrics, reducing driver speeding by 57.5 percent, mobile phone usage by 25 percent and seatbelt violations by 72.2 percent.

“The capabilities SmartDrive provides are head-and-shoulders above what we had previously—including more flexibility to configure the program to our business needs and target risk areas,” said Kevin Desmond, Safety Specialist at WAXIE. “The telematics data and contextual vehicle information that accompanies the video—including speed, GPS and map location, and braking—has delivered significantly more insight to our risk.  This has helped us more effectively coach our drivers and better investigate claims when they occur. With an easy-to-use application and actionable reporting, it’s been a seamless transition with clear bottom-line benefits for our business.”

From rural roadways to highways and city streets, WAXIE drivers encounter varying environments along their routes. The company needed a safety system that would be versatile enough to address the driver and their specific driving environment—identifying attentiveness and drowsy driving for over-the-road situations, and protection from not-at-fault claims in congested, urban driving. WAXIE is also benefiting from SmartDrive’s open platform and configurable approach, which offers more flexibility and a clear picture of what happened on the road. By leveraging the platform’s extended recording capability, beyond the 20-second clip, the company can capture more information around incidents, while gaining deeper insights into compliance and safety issues. This complements the organization’s ‘1-800’ call-in line, enabling them to investigate complaints, better identify coaching opportunities and prevent future situations from recurring.

“We are proud to welcome WAXIE to the SmartDrive family,” said Steve Mitgang, CEO of SmartDrive.  “The results that WAXIE has experienced since making the switch to our solution are indicative of those our other customers experience.  As the only video-based safety program with an open data platform, we can take advantage of the wealth of rich, real-time information on the vehicle to uncover the broadest spectrum of risk for our customer—delivering more protection for their drivers and faster results for their businesses. We look forward to a long and productive partnership.”
