After a diligent review, Crothall Healthcare has established EPA registered SSS Navigator #62 Perisept Sporicidal Disinfectant Cleaner as its primary non-bleach sporicidal solution. This comes in response to the increasing significance hospitals and healthcare facilities have been placing on mitigating the risk of HAI’s, specifically Clostridium difficile. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 14,000 deaths and $1 billion in extra healthcare costs are linked to c.diff infections each year.
Perisept stood out amongst other similar products due to its proven effectiveness in eliminating c. diff, MRSA, and E. Coli. Perisept boasts the fastest c.diff kill claim in the industry, requiring only two minutes of contact time to disinfect hard surfaces. “The use of Perisept has become an emerging solution in our efforts to mitigate the risk of hospital associated infections,” Rich Feczko, Crothall Healthcare’s National Director of Systems, Standards, Innovation & Global Support stated, “The product efficacy, quick dwell time and performance at several of our locations, has supported our HAI risk reduction mission. It also aligns our company and client efforts by adding another effective EPA registered non-bleach based sporicidal kill claim product to our infection prevention solution arsenal”.
Supreme Industrial Products, Mansfield, MA has been providing the training and ongoing support at many of the Crothall Healthcare managed hospitals. “The EVS departments at the Crothall run hospitals have been very receptive to our training,” said Steven Stern, president, “For a successful infection control disinfection surface program it takes great products, procedures and people.”
In addition to its cleaning efficacy, Perisept also provides a solution to healthcare facilities beyond just disinfection. Many healthcare facilities have been challenged with battling HAIs while still preserving the value of their equipment. Up until now, the most common solution to disinfecting and cleaning environmental surfaces has been a two-step process that incorporated bleach-based chemistry. It is widely accepted that bleach not only harms uniforms and fabric, but it also damages a broad number of surfaces including medical equipment.
In their analysis of Perisept, Crothall noted Perisept’s non-erosive formula did not degrade the integrity of equipment over time, making it a superior choice for both clinical and non-clinical equipment over bleach-based solutions. Crothall’s research further noted that Perisept does not leave behind film or residual layer that could result in any form of safety hazard or contamination risk. Perisept is compatible with a wide variety of materials including stainless steel, aluminum, chrome, glazed ceramic tile, plastic and painted surfaces, as well as finished floors.
Perisept is designed for use with the closed loop SSS Navigator Dilution Control System. The Navigator’s closed loop dispensing prevents exposure to the concentrate, ensures proper dilution ratios and increases user safety. The high 1:32 dilution rate offers a lower end-use cost making it affordable for use as a daily disinfectant cleaner. In addition, it is an excellent choice for cleaning and disinfecting operating rooms, isolation rooms and patient rooms. The easy to follow numbering and color-coded labeling simplifies training for EVS departments, allowing departments to standardize on one disinfectant with minimal training.
