An investigation into the grocery business in Massachusetts uncovered "major safety risks" for some janitorial subcontractors at local stores.

The first complaint, according to reports from Public News Service, is that workers are currently required to transport propane tanks that are used to power the floor buffing machines to and from the workplace, using their own personal cars. An alternative option includes providing a locked storage space on site that can be accessed by workers and delivery drivers.

OSHA is also investigating worker complaints involving health problems from exposure to some of the chemicals involved in the floor-buffing process. According to reports, symptoms of illness include headaches, nausea and dizziness. OSHA will be investigating whether the company provides chemical training and personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves.
