KSS Converts Vacant Indoor Waterpark Into New HQ

KSS Enterprises (KSS), a Kalamazoo-based facility supply and equipment company, announced the completion of an 11-month, multi-million dollar renovation and addition of its new 83,000-square-foot headquarters in Texas Township. Located at 5053 Sports Dr., the former 53,000- square-foot, multi-tenant building was home to the former S.W.A.T Fitness Club, Pirate’s Island Aquatic Center Waterpark, dance studio, chiropractic clinic and hair salon. Much of the building has stood vacant for several years. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 13 at 11:30 a.m., with an open house from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m.

The new headquarters is home to KSS’ administrative and sales office, 45,000-square-foot storage facility, retail showroom, service department and two training facilities. The KSS showroom is open to the public serving both commercial and residential customers.

“We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to revitalize such a prominent building in the Kalamazoo community,” said Tom Hill, owner of KSS Enterprises.

After years of growth, KSS no longer had space at its former location and was housing inventory and some team member offsite. The new headquarters will allow the company to include all of the Kalamazoo operations under one roof, which leadership says will enhance the customer experience.

“Our new Kalamazoo headquarters will allow us to provide our customers with exceptional service,” said Hill. “The expanded retail showroom and training facility provides an opportunity for our customers to experience and learn more about our products first-hand. Additionally, we go beyond product training to help our customers with their processes and custodial programs to help them reduce their overall cost to clean. Our new 80 person training facility will allow for even more opportunity to provide that education.”

The new KSS building is situated on five-and-a-half acres and the company owns an additional another three acres to the south.

“The evolution of our new headquarters parallels the growth of our company,” said Hill. “After adding on to our previous location multiple times, we actually outgrew the space some time ago. The build out of our new space was intentional and it allows us room for future expansion.”

Over the past three decades, KSS has expanded from a local custodial supply company in Kalamazoo to a full- service facility supply and equipment company which serves numerous markets across the Great Lakes Region including: education, government, hospitality, manufacturing, retail, healthcare and contract cleaning market as well as the general public.

In addition to their Kalamazoo headquarters, KSS has showrooms and sales offices in Grand Rapids, Jackson, Petoskey and Plymouth, Michigan as well as South Bend, Indiana. The Petoskey and Plymouth locations are also distribution centers. KSS currently has 56 Kalamazoo-based employees and 88 across the entire company.
