PortionPac Chemical Corporation was honored to receive the 2016 Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award for its demonstrated leadership in sustainable practices.

The Office of the Governor and the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center presented the award to PortionPac Chemical Corporation for a recent overhaul of its product formulations. The company has undergone a complete transformation of its cleaning detergents to provide solutions that are free from OSHA Hazard Communication Standard hazards, deliver improved performance over previous offerings and reflect an increased commitment to Green SealTM certification.

“Every successful business must constantly challenge itself to improve. The implementation of the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard was our opportunity to do just that, and we were able to create state-of-the- art, safer cleaners that reaffirm the sustainable values on which our company was founded over 50 years ago,” said Burt Klein, president of PortionPac. In addition to product formulations, PortionPac completed its product update with redesigned packaging and a modernized, ISO 9001 certified manufacturing process.

Twenty-five Illinois businesses were recognized at the ceremony at the Union League Club of Chicago. Mark Ryan, PhD, Executive Director, Prairie Research Institute and Kevin O’Brien, PhD, Director, Illinois Sustainable Technology Center, presented the award to PortionPac Chemical Corporation President, Burt Klein, Board Chairman, Marvin Klein, Regulatory Compliance Director, Caryn Stets and Communication Manager, John Paulun.

The 2016 award marks the fifth time PortionPac Chemical Corporation has been recognized for sustainable achievements at the statewide level, having won the Illinois Governor’s Pollution Prevention Award in 2006, and Continuous Improvement Awards in 2008, 2009, and 2011.
