Liquid Soaps Rein King On War Against Superbugs

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is urging people to use liquid soap and tepid running water for good hand hygiene, according to an article on the Telegraph website.

"We need to address the growing problem of drug-resistant infections as the global medicine cabinet is becoming increasingly bare," said Prof Dame Sally Davies, chief medical officer for England.

Professor Gillian Leng, deputy chief executive of NICE, said: “There are two reasons why we reference liquid soap, rather than bars of soap.

“Partly its that all of the evidence we have is about the role of liquid soap. But also it is because intuitively when you see a bar of soap collecting dirt, you don’t need a microscope to know that it’s not the most hygienic approach.”
