Cleaning Crews Admit To Dumping Trash At New York Schools

A downtown Brooklyn group has dropped tons of garbage at a high school for at least six years and the school custodians are not happy, according to an article on the New York Post website.

After being confronted with photos, the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership admitted to dumping mountains of trash bags at George Westinghouse Career and Technical Education High School in the Metrotech area.

The Partnership runs three Business Improvement Districts and collects fees from companies, then pays the non-profit DOE Fund $1.7 million a year to collect and dispose of trash. The fund runs a “Ready, Willing an Able” program, which gives trash-collection jobs to the homeless and ex-convicts, the article said.

A Partnership spokesman said instead of hauling trash to a Brooklyn city sanitation garage, it has dumped trash picked up from the area at Westinghouse six days a week since at least 2011.
