Precautions Urged During Hurricane Recovery

The Environmental Protection Agency is urging those dealing with recovery efforts after recent hurricanes are urged to follow important safety rules to help prevent serious illness and fatality.

For instance, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning — do not use portable generators indoors. The fumes from a portable generator can be fatal in minutes if breathed in.

Also, do not use them on balconies, porches, tents or carports. They do not have enough air circulation for safe operation of a generator.

Keep portable generators used outdoors away from windows to prevent the fumes from entering the home.
