In an effort to enhance sustainable options, the Home Depot has asked its manufacturing suppliers to exclude nine ingredients from their chemical offerings. According to a corporate announcement, Home Depot will require adjustments be made prior to 2022.
Chemicals that must be removed from product offerings are:
• Propyl-paraben
• Butyl-paraben
• Diethyl phthalates
• Dibutyl phthalates
• Formaldehyde
• Nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs)
• Triclosan
• Toluene
• Trichloroethylene (TCE)
The big box store is committed to working with suppliers to improve products that impact indoor air quality. In fact, Home Depot already sells eco-friendly products that customers can use to contribute to green cleaning initiatives. Their Eco Options program helps identify environmentally preferred products backed by third-party certifications such as the EPA Safer Choice label.
