When in Rome...check out the airport restrooms. One veteran traveler boasts in his Business Insider blog that Rome's airport is home to the most beautiful restrooms.
Despite cleaning crews best efforts, airport restrooms can be kind of gross — but not Rome's Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino airport which impressed the author with its stylish decor and ingenious design.
Rome Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino is the Rome's biggest airport. At the end of its luxury mall, travelers can find clearly marked restrooms. Inside these spaces, highlights include a simple and graphic organization of space and a "mellow, green mossy plant" beneath a curtain of glass.
According to the author, the brown and tan marble walls contrasted with the white urinals and looked like they belonged in a high-end sushi restaurant. At the sinks, the fixture design consolidated water, soap, and the hand drier in a recessed space above the basin. The same setup, just lower and with easier access, was in place for the children.
Facilities across the globe have stepped up their game in terms of creating a positive experience in restrooms. Rome's Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino restrooms can be compared to the likes of the OdySea Aquarium in Scottsdale, Arizona, which won the 17th annual America’s Best Restroom Contest last year for its “jaws”-dropping design (2018 finalists will be announced in August).
Instead of a traditional mirror over the sinks, the aquarium’s restrooms include a gigantic acrylic window leading straight into Shark Waters – the attraction’s largest exhibit.
