San Francisco has introduced new cleaning standards in an effort to keep pace with a COVID-19 pandemic that isn't slowing down.
Three City Supervisors introduced the Healthy Buildings Ordinance, which would force commercial office buildings and hotels to meet the new cleaning standards when they reopen, reports Connect California. Those that fail to meet the standards would face fines.
The ordinance, which is slated to stay in effect for 60 days, requires that buildings 50,000 square feet or larger and hotels have public areas, restrooms and elevators cleaned ever 30 minutes. Employees who provide cleaning services at these facilities will also have to undergo paid training on these new cleaning standards and will need to be given additional protections.
BOMA San Francisco calls the ordinance "redundant" because state agencies have already issued cleaning guidelines, according to Connect. BOMA worries that getting guidance from multiple authorizes makes things confusing.
