Just days after being sworn in as the new head of the influential U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Isabella Casillas Guzman was already saying that she plans to help small businesses recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Guzman said her first order of business is to configure the agency so that its focus is delivering the aid for small business that is available under the recently approved $1.9 trillion COVID-19 rescue package.

The massive package includes $10 billion in provisions supporting state lending companies, and another $100 million for a program recently created to help educate struggling business owners. The package also features more funding for the Paycheck Protection Program.

Guzman is hopeful that the continued vaccination of Americans against COVID-19 and delivery of stimulus payments will also expediate recovery of businesses and the overall economy.
