The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) announced that its 2021 annual conference will be held virtually June 28 to 30. The event had originally been set to take place in Austin, Texas.

Throughout the pandemic, APIC has relied on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance and federal and state event restrictions to determine the safety of holding in-person events. Earlier in March, APIC expressed dismay that Texas was among the states that ended statewide COVID-19 mask mandates and allowed businesses to resume operations at full capacity.

“APIC has heard from many of its members, industry partners, volunteer leaders, staff, and other stakeholders that they are unable to attend our conference in person due to continued concerns for health and safety in light of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said 2021 APIC President Ann Marie Pettis, BSN, RN, CIC, FAPIC. “As such, we are shifting all our efforts to ensuring that this 100 percent virtual conference delivers the best content and experience possible.”

Conference attendees will be able to hear keynote speakers, attend educational sessions, explore a virtual exhibit hall, view new-product demonstrations, and network with one another in real time.
