Similar to the initial distribution of COVID-19 vaccinations, a White House update announced the roll-out of a third booster-dose beginning next month, reports CNN. Citizens over the age of 18 will technically be eligible, but certain parameters will be implemented that are important to know.
Initial Roll-Out Recipients: Nursing home residents, healthcare workers, and immunocompromised citizens
Initial Roll-Out Date: Sept. 20, 2021
Booster Shot Eligibility: For those who have already received both doses of an mRNA vaccine (Moderna or Pfizer, for example). While U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy anticipates the need for a booster for J&J vaccines as well, more information will be needed before any announcements are made.
Booster Shot Timeline: Those who have received both doses of an mRNA vaccine should wait eight months from the date of the second dose prior to getting the booster.
The timeline and roll-out is contingent on both FDA and CDC approval of the booster. BSCs, in-house staff and others in the cleaning industry will want to keep tabs on the roll-out as vaccination mandates continue to be a pressing topic.
