As schools prepare for the fall semester, many are evaluating their cleaning program in response to the rise in COVID-19 Delta variant cases. One example of a significant overhaul comes from the Tupelo School District in Mississippi which made a series of investments to maximize infection control, WTVA reports. 

The changes, centered primarily on touchpoint disinfection, include changes to both frequency protocol and new, innovative equipment. Across all schools in the Tupelo district, the following measure are being taken according to Executive Director of Operations Charles Laney:

• The use of fog disinfected sprayers with a 99.9 percent effectiveness rate, while wiping down the areas afterward

• Sanitizing public spaces including classrooms a minimum of four times per day

• The implementation of temperature scanners to identify the early onset of an outbreak

• The adoption of touches water fountains to decrease the risk of touchpoint spread
